Welcome back to the Puck Management Morning Briefing. Among this weekend's top stories: Evgeni Malkin confirmed he wants to play one more NHL season and opened the door to leaving Pittsburgh, St. Louis signed Dylan Holloway to a steeply team-friendly extension and publicly named five players who could be available in trades, and Connor McDavid's exit presser delivered an unvarnished assessment of Edmonton's season. Malkin told reporters at locker room cleanup day he wants to play one more NHL season and is open to signing elsewhere if Pittsburgh wants "new blood."
At his end-of-season availability, Malkin acknowledged Dubas may prefer a younger direction: "If not Pittsburgh, I hope some team." He framed the decision as Dubas's to make: "Maybe he wants new blood here. I understand it's a business." Crosby said "it's pretty obvious I'd love to keep playing with him," and Kris Letang also backed his return. Malkin confirmed no interest in returning to the KHL. He becomes a UFA on July 1.

Holloway signed a five-year, $38.75M extension ($7.75M AAV) — roughly $4.6M per year below his projected open-market value.
The deal covers 2026-27 through 2030-31. Holloway (24) had 22G/51pts in 59 games this season and 48G/114pts in 136 games since STL matched his offer sheet from EDM. The Athletic projects his open-market value at approximately $12.4M AAV this summer; Armstrong acknowledged injury history as a factor in the discount.

McDavid said "We were an average team all year" following Edmonton's first-round exit — finished the series minus-4 at 5v5 with Anaheim's Jackson LaCombe limiting him to 74% xG against in 66 head-to-head minutes.
At his end-of-season presser, McDavid added: "When you're an average team with high expectations, you're gonna be disappointed. We just never found it." Sean Gentille's piece framed the exit as a structural failure, not simply a McDavid underperformance. Knoblauch confirmed McDavid was playing through an ankle injury sustained in Game 1.

Crosby confirmed no surgery is required after his Olympic MCL injury — felt "physically good" through the playoffs with one year remaining on his deal.
At locker room cleanup, Crosby said he won't need any cleanups or surgeries and felt better as the series progressed. On how long he'll play: "I don't know. It's a year-to-year thing, how you feel. I feel pretty good." His $8.7M AAV deal expires after 2026-27.

Jeremy Rutherford named Robert Thomas, Jordan Kyrou, Pavel Buchnevich, Jordan Binnington, and Colton Parayko as players who "could be available" as STL pivots to trades ahead of the June draft.
Rutherford reported the Blues are prioritizing trades as their next step following the Holloway extension, with a weak UFA crop this summer expected to make the trade market more active than usual. All five players are under contract.

Fluto Shinzawa reports Zacha posted 2.38 pts/60 at 5v5, trailing only Pastrnak among Boston forwards. He has one year remaining and could move into a larger top-6 role if BOS addresses its center situation in the offseason.

Bedard told Scott Powers: "Not worrying about it, not thinking about it at all. Just kind of whenever we can do that." Bedard enters the final year of his ELC in 2026-27. Contract talks are being coordinated through his agents on scheduling.

Friedman noted Sundin and Chayka first met at the 2012 Memorial Cup; the goal is for both to "present a united front" in decisions. No other organizational additions are planned.
